Unlike streaming playlists that loop short MP3 files or interrupt your concentration with ads, mindspeace uses a hybrid browser audio architecture. Colored noises (brown, pink, white and green noise), binaural beats, isochronic tones and Solfeggio frequencies are synthesized mathematically in real time using your browser's Web Audio API. Because they are calculated sample by sample, they have zero loop seams and use virtually no network bandwidth once the page loads.
For organic nature textures like steady rain, ocean surf and crackling fire, the engine starts an instant procedural synth layer on the exact millisecond you press play, then smoothly crossfades over 350 milliseconds into high-resolution public-domain field recordings. Everything runs locally on your device with no account and no tracking of your tasks or audio settings.
Step-by-step: using the six studio dock panels
The dock at the bottom of the screen gives you access to six specialized audio and productivity instruments, while the top-right bar controls visual scenes, fullscreen Desk Mode and the quick-reference guide.
- 1 · Sounds (Ambient & Noise Mixer): Open Sounds to combine up to 17 independent channels across Nature (rain, thunderstorm, ocean, wind, forest stream, fireplace, birds, night crickets), Spaces (mechanical keyboard, ticking clock, night train, deep space drone) and Noise colours (white, pink, brown, deep brown, green, blue and grey). Click any tile to toggle it on, then drag its slider to balance the mix.
- 2 · Brainwaves (0.5–100 Hz Entrainment): Choose between Binaural (requires headphones; sends two slightly different frequencies to left and right ears) and Isochronic (works on speakers; rhythmically pulses a single tone). Select a band preset—Delta, Theta, Alpha, Beta or 40 Hz Gamma—or dial in any exact beat frequency down to 0.01 Hz and adjust the warmth of the carrier tone between 60 Hz and 600 Hz.
- 3 · Tones (Solfeggio & Tuning Reference): Tap any of the nine Solfeggio tones (174 Hz to 963 Hz), 528 Hz, 432 Hz or the 7.83 Hz Schumann resonance. Enable Soft shimmer to blend three gentle harmonic voices instead of a clinical single sine wave.
- 4 · Sessions (Automated Frequency Ramps): Instead of staying on a single static frequency, Sessions smoothly glide your beat frequency across time—for example, ramping down from alert Beta (14 Hz) through Alpha into Theta (5 Hz) over 30 minutes for an evening wind-down.

How to balance volumes for safe, fatigue-free listening
The most common mistake when using frequency generators is setting pure tones or binaural beats too loud. Pure sine waves concentrate all of their acoustic energy into a single narrow frequency band, which can quickly tire the inner ear if played at music volume. Follow the 3-layer rule for long study or sleep sessions:
- Layer 1 — Acoustic bed (40% to 65% slider): Start with a broadband sound such as steady rain, ocean surf, brown noise or pink noise. This masks sudden environmental noises (doors, traffic, office voices).
- Layer 2 — Texture accent (15% to 30% slider): Add a secondary detail like distant thunder, fireplace crackle, forest stream or soft keyboard clicks to keep the soundscape organic.
- Layer 3 — Frequency or tone (10% to 25% slider): Keep binaural beats, isochronic pulses or Solfeggio tones tucked just underneath your ambient bed so they are barely audible as a gentle warmth rather than a prominent hum.
Overall master volume should stay low enough that you could comfortably hear someone speaking to you at normal conversational level (roughly 50 to 60 dB SPL).

Yes. Your volume sliders, last active sound mix, timer stats, top three tasks and brain dump notes are saved automatically in your browser localStorage on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server.
Can I play ambient sounds, binaural beats and a Solfeggio tone at the same time?
Yes. The Ambient mixer, Brainwaves generator and Tones panel run on parallel Web Audio busses that feed into the master volume slider, so you can layer rain, brown noise and a 10 Hz Alpha beat simultaneously.
Why does the Now Playing bar appear at the bottom of the timer?
Whenever at least one sound or frequency is active, the Now Playing bar shows a chip for every playing channel so you can remove individual layers, adjust Master Volume, pause all audio or stop everything with one click.
How do I install mindspeace as an offline app?
On Chrome, Edge or desktop Safari, click the Install icon in the address bar. On iOS Safari, tap Share and select Add to Home Screen. The service worker caches the studio interface and Web Audio engine for instant loading.
Does switching pages stop my audio?
Each landing page has its own curated one-click preset (for example 40 Hz Gamma or Brown Noise), while inside any page you can open all six panels and customize the mix without ever leaving the screen.
